A big part of our work here is honoring the true artist of the painting- the man of the madness! Joseph Hubertus Pilates (9 December 1883 – 9 October 1967), was a German man who developed a method of physical and mental conditioning that he called “Contrology”, later known as Pilates, based on his own experience and study of anatomy, yoga, and martial arts.

He used his creation to rehabilitate injured soldiers and dancers in the early 20th century. His fundamental principles were of centering, concentration, control, precision, breath and flow. Pilates was and is intended to rehabilitate the body to its natural state, and help us find a deeper mind and body connection. The main goals are strengthening the core/abdominal muscles and elongating the spine to improve posture. His creation has opened the fitness realm to new heights!

Here at Roots and Core Pilates, we value and intend to live on this practice for what it was truly created for, to improve posture, strengthen our body, strengthen our minds and to organically improve physical ailments. While we are not physical therapists, our work can assist our clients to avoid injury due to the strength and endurance that is achieved through our programs.

We value that the true art of Pilates is in the details. Our instructors are very detail oriented and put emphasis on how little movements and deeper thoughts can really change the effectiveness of your workout session.
